Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some commonly asked questions about our study! If we didn't address something that you're curious about, please select the button below to email us. Our team will get back to you within 1-2 business days.

What is the screening process like?

You will answer some questions about you and your child on REDCap, a secure research data platform. This will take around 5-10 minutes to complete. If you are eligible, one of our research assistants will reach out within 1-2 business days via email to inform you of next steps.

Do I have to come in person?

No, unless you prefer to! All study procedures can be done remotely through Zoom. In fact, 98 out of our 100 parent/child dyads so far have completed all of their study procedures through Zoom, in the comfort of their homes.

Will I be paid for my time?

Yes. Payment varies from person to person, depending on which study tasks are completed. Parents will be paid up to $320 for their time via a mailed check. Kids will be paid $40 through Amazon gift cards.

What will happen to the data that you collect?

Your privacy is of utmost importance to our team. Data will be kept secure and confidential through our encrypted browsers. All paper data is kept in a locked cabinet in a building with badge-only access on our campus. All data will be deleted 7 years after the study ends. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any specific questions regarding security of your information.

What is the time commitment for this study?

There are a total of four synchronous meetings spread out over the course of 3-4 months. The first three meetings require both you and your child to participate for around 1-2 hours. The final one only requires a meeting with your child for around 30 minutes. We have hours from 8:30 AM to 8 PM on weekdays and from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM on weekends. There will also be tasks that can be completed on your own time.

Who will my child and I be meeting with?

We have three full-time research assistants that work on the PATH study! You may potentially meet with all three of them over the course of the study. All study staff members have experience working with children and families and have been thoroughly trained to conduct these assessments.
